That way you’ll be able to book a different show at each party from the guests and you also don’t have to carry as much product with you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Always try and rebook your hostess for a Christmas party later in the year as this is your biggest selling period.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Give all your guests a free sample bags with your business card included. Guests love getting freebies and they are targeted customers so it’s worth spending a little extra on them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;You can either make up your own Avon hostess gift, or give her a big discount on her purchases. Work it out with your hostess beforehand (even if you are just giving her a discount – it’s always nice to have a little extra ‘free gift’ as well).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Keep the show to around 30 to 40 minutes and make it fun. Any longer and you’ll lose the guests attention. Stay an extra 30 minutes at the end for taking orders and answering questions. You are not allowed to have a store or market stall and sell your products that way so there is no need to keep much avon product at your home.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Samples on the other hand - now I do seem to have a lot of samples at home that accumulate over time.  So what do you do with all those extra samples?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here are some ideas to get rid of extra avon stock and samples:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Attach a skin care sample to your business cards and leave your cards wherever you are allowed (bulletin boards, business card boards).  People will be taking your card if just for the free sample!  (and hopefully they will love it so much they'll ring you to order or go to your avon representative website).&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Make up little 'gift' packs of a variety of samples and give them to new customers.  They'll become loyal customers and appreciate your gift.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;If you have any old samples of avon products that are no longer in stock give them in bulk to nursing homes and aged care homes for the residents who can't afford to buy expensive skin care but would really appreciate your old stock (you can do this with full sized products too). This way you'll know what sort of fragrance she likes whether it's floral, or oriental so you can show her an Avon perfume that matches it (which is likely to be much cheaper than the one she is currently wearing).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;Don't show her more than three fragrances at the one time as it can get confusing as to which smell is which. Avon will give you predictions of the number of customers and likely sales your territory will produce but you would be unwise to use these figures to try to predict how much commission you will earn, especially from your first few rounds. Some customers will buy on a regular basis, but place quite small orders each time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Others will place a few, large orders and some will buy sporadically. Until you get to know your area you really can’t predict the level of sales. Bear in mind too, that orders will increase as the people get to know you and you build up trust.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Most people start direct selling via catalogues like Avon's on a part-time basis and many reps expect to earn reasonable money for just a few hours of work a week. Avon agents with a large ‘family and friends’ customer base may find that this is so, but those relying just on delivering catalogues could find it more time consuming. How much time you take to get round your territory will depend on the type of houses: some have long paths, others are close together. If you find you have to walk further than expected, don’t worry; the exercise is very good for you!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Be positive!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In any area there will be people who welcome your Avon brochures with enthusiasm; those who will look through and perhaps buy occasionally; those who will return the brochure unopened; and those who seem to take it as a personal insult that you put one in their post box. The latter should be dismissed without another thought. These people will not be customers so be positive, don’t waste any more time on them and cut them out of your round. The enthusiasts will become regular customers and are therefore worth spending some time with. The more people who can be persuaded to buy necessities such as shampoo and deodorant on a regular basis the better as they will get into the habit of ordering and will soon find other things of interest in the catalogue.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You will need to make sure that you don’t stop giving Avon catalogues to houses that don’t place an order after your first few visits. As people get used to you leaving a brochure some will become more interested and look through it. Each campaign you will pick up a few more customers, widening your customer base. This is essential for long -term success because you don’t want to be relying just on orders from a few regulars who may not order in a particular campaign.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Many orders will be quite small, but some people could be just trying out the products. Hopefully they will like what they buy and become increasingly enthusiastic.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Once you have got to grips with the ordering system that part of the job shouldn’t take up too much of your time. Sorting the products between your customers once they have been delivered to you could be more time-consuming. However, delivering orders to customers can be the most enjoyable part of the job. You will soon get to know your customers and will see that they like the products. And, of course, that’s when you get paid! Most of the 'Avon ladies' (and many men!) sell in their spare-time, although there is now an increasing number who work at their business full time.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;We have interviewed several Avon representatives to find out how they have built up their Avon business. Their experiences may help you to decide whether you would benefit from joining an Avon team.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This week we are speaking to a man! Dave Carter is 31 and lives in Sunderland, UK.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Q: Dave, why did you join Avon?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;A:&lt;/b&gt; My partner Debbie joined first, about 18 months ago. I had been selling another MLM company's products but I hadn't been very successful. I like the idea of network marketing, also known as multi-level marketing, and I could see the potential; but it just wasn't working for me. Then Avon started network marketing here in the UK about 2 years ago and getting in on the ground floor seemed attractive. I never dreamt I would succeed as well as I have.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Q: You say you have succeeded, how well have you done?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;A:&lt;/b&gt; I don't want to be too specific about the money, but to give you an idea, I achieved the top commission level just before Christmas! Debbie and I run separate teams and she should join me on the top level soon.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Q: That's great. You must be enjoying the job to reach the top level in such a short time.&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;A:&lt;/b&gt; I really enjoy it. Although most of my team of nearly 100 is within 40-50 miles, I also travel, especially to meet potential sales leaders. I love being my own boss and don't think I could go back to working for someone else.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Q: So you think it's best to actually meet the members of your team?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;A:&lt;/b&gt; It's one of Avon's rules: I have to meet the potential recruit face to face. We aren't allowed to sign up people by phone.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Q: How do you manage to recruit so many people, especially if some of them are a long way from you?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;A:&lt;/b&gt; I have a website and receive a lot of enquiries from visitors to the site. I then either arrange to meet the person myself, or I pass the enquiry to one of my sales leaders. If I don't have a sales leader nearby I know other people with Avon businesses in other parts of the country and we swap leads.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Q: So I guess you would recommend others to join Avon?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;A:&lt;/b&gt; I certainly would. I should point out that you wouldn’t be joining Avon as such: each one of us is a self-employed representative and we are not employed by the company. But anyone wanting to earn a few pounds each week by delivering the brochures and then collecting orders is very welcome. Or you can really build a great business like me by recruiting representatives and sales leaders who, in turn, will themselves recruit representatives. If you have a job now but don’t enjoy it, start part-time then build up the business until the income from that is enough to pay all your bills. Then you can sack your boss and work full-time for yourself!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Thank you Dave, best wishes for the future. yes Mary from the office was saying she wanted some shower gel .. etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Other tactics are to tell your customer's that you are having a competition in your area as to which Avon Representative can gain the most new customers, and you would like them to hand a few extra brochures to their friends to see if any of them would like to order anything as well.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Say you will give a free gift to them if they can get you some new customers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Most people are happy enough to try and help you win the 'competition' to get more customers type='text'>Explode your Avon Skin Care Sales</title><content type='html'>I have recently been trialing a way to boost my skin care sales and I'm excited to let you in on a method that has been hugely successful for me.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This method is for your regular customers or friends and family that you know and trust.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ask them if they would mind trialing a range of skincare products for you for seven days.  You'll give them the products one week and pick them up the following week and they will report on how they liked the products.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Give them a &lt;strong&gt;fullsize brand new&lt;/strong&gt; cleanser, toner and moisturiser.  I like to put them in a little clear bag to keep them all together (and it makes them look better).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What usually happens is that the customer falls in love with the products and asks if she can keep/buy them. I would also advertise any of your own specials on the front as well (if you are doing gift baskets or free wrapping etc).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mother's Day is one of Avon's best selling periods (apart from Christmas and the holiday's of course).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another idea that a friend of mine has started doing is wrapping the brochures like a gift with clear cellophane and ribbon and then leaving them at the door's of her customers houses so they get a little surprise when they get home.  I really like this idea as everyone loves getting gifts.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you don't want to waste brochures, just wrap your business card and a sample with a little card or tag that says that you were thinking of them and wish that they have a great day.  It would be great if you could tie the slogan on the card with the sample too. I have no idea how they got any email addresses, I assume that they asked for an email address somewhere on their site and people got confused with mine.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;MY sites are www.avon-selling-secrets.com and this blog.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I DO NOT send spam email to any of my customers, or share your address details with anyone. It's also more fun if you decide to hand out brochures to people if you have someone else there for moral support.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Choose a great location and both go and hand out brochures and business cards.  You can even hand out samples if you like - but try not to spend too much money. If I haven't received an order from someone and there is a few days to go before it is due in to Avon, then I send a group email to everyone reminding them of the deadline for getting their orders to me.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When I do this I always get an extra five or so customers placing orders. They will even recommend you their friends and family and sometimes even 'help' you by getting orders for you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Compare that to the amount of time it takes to find a new customer.  Every new Avon Rep will attest to how hard it is to find customers. Besides I think you gain more by being friendly rather than pushy.  If you are pushy immediately people put up their defences.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Instead I like to plant a seed in their minds.  If I've started a conversation with someone about Avon my first question is usually along the lines of "Have you thought about getting your own account with Avon so that you can buy your products directly from the company at a discount?". Was it for discounted products?  To earn some money? The customer that brings you the most customers wins, OR&lt;br /&gt;2. No-one is going to order from you if it's in the garbage bin.  I know a lot of people feel 'pushy' if they keep dropping brochures in people's yards (tossing), but trust me, if you are consistent it really does work.  Like I have said in previous posts, it takes around 7 times before someone will buy from you.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Of course that is going to cost you money so this is where you 'recycle' your old brochures.  If you can back order from them - great! but if they are too old then place a sticker on the front saying that the new brochure has even MORE great specials, if they would like to see a regular brochure give you a quick email. Here is my latest customer rant ..&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yesterday I went to visit a new customer, she had invited her sister-in-law and daughter around so they could order as well.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Her and her daughter were lovely and put in orders of around $40 each.  However her sister-in-law was rather demanding and was upset that I didn't have all the products she was interested in there to show her.  (I did have quite a few to display, but of course didn't have everything!). &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;She reluctantly ordered five lipsticks at $3.50 each (total order $17.50).  I thanked her for her order and was about to leave when she asked me what she would get free with her order.  She demanded that I should give her one of her lipsticks for free since she had already ordered five of them.  Her argument was that if she went to the Clinique counter at the mall and ordered five lipsticks she would get something free.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now of course I had to bite my tongue and try not to say that I didn't think that she could buy 5 lipsticks for $17.50 at the Clinique counter, but I remained cool and said that I would see what I could do, but I couldn't promise anything.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Well, this didn't satisfy her and instead she proceeded to tell me that I wasn't a very good business person if I didn't give her something for free.  I tried to explain that Avon charges me the price in the brochure (less my commission) and that I don't have full access to all their stock so that I can just take something to give to her.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So of course she cancelled her order.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now those of you who have been reading my tips and posts will know that I am actually quite generous with gifts for my customers, however I will not stand for someone who DEMANDS I give them something.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So my point in all of this (apart from just getting it off my chest) is that we all have to deal with difficult customers from time to time.  Be polite, but be firm.  And remember that usually it isn't YOU that they are upset with, but they just could be having a bad day, or have a bad experience and are taking it out on you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Don't take it personally, even big corporations have people who complain, it's a part of business. In the case of this customer, I told her that I would order the samples in specifically for her. This can mean that your profits might take a big dive downhill (especially right after Christmas) so how can you encourage them to place another order?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If a customer has placed a large order with me (usually over $50), one of the things I like to do is to place a 'coupon' with their current order for 10% off their next purchase.  I usually make that coupon expire within the next four to six weeks so that they will be inclined to use it straight away.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Often I'll put something like this on it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Thank you so much for your order.  I appreciate your business and to say thank-you I have enclosed a coupon for 10% off your next order with me.  Use it before [date]. Late December/ early January is generally a slow Avon month (after the holiday season and New Year celebrations) and so customers tend to buy less at this time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It isn't until around the middle of January that things start to pick up.  So what's next after January?  February of course and that means Valentines Day!  Yes I've started thinking about Valentines day ideas already!  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Over the next few weeks there is going to be some big changes over at www.avon-selling-secrets.com  I've decided to make the site bigger and better for everyone.  But that means I'm going to have to take the site offline for a while.  I'll probably 'close up shop' around the middle of December and 'reopen' mid January. My rule is that they get a brochure every campaign until they say they don't want one anymore.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This reminds me of a story of a fellow rep who continued to drop her brochure at a house that had never ordered.  She was nearly going to give up when one day the lady approached her and asked her if she could do a fundraiser for the local school at which the Avon Rep of course said yes.  Do you know what the sales from the fundraiser was?  Over $1,000!  This is a true story! And here are my reasons why:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;YES&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;If you have a decent customer base and you think that you'll be able to easily sell the stock to them.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;If it's nearing gift giving time and you want to make up some gift baskets to show your customers and you can use these products.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;If it's cheap enough for you to afford.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;NO&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;If you have a customer base of less than 20.  (Unless you are SURE that they will all buy the products.)&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;If you can't afford it.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;MAYBE&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;There will be times when it's a great deal but you just aren't sure whether to take the deal or not.  In times like these I like to run through a quick checklist.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;1. Is it a product that can be used year round i.e. makeup/skincare?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;2. Can you afford it right now?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;3. If you couldn't sell it, would it be something you would buy for yourself anyway?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;4. Is there a return policy on this deal?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;I generally don't buy many advance order deals, simply because I seem to get left with a lot of stock in my house if I do. I also write down things like their birthdays and their children's names as well (because who can remember all that stuff!)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I just keep in it on my computer with all their other details (address, phone number etc) although you might prefer to keep it on an index card system if that works better for you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The benefit of making these little notes is that the customer feels like you truly do care about them (and people BUY from people they like!).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I like to give them a little gift in their birthday month too.  Usually it's something I get really cheap (doesn't have to be Avon). Invite three times the amount of people that you would like, because some won't show.  Make pretty invitations to give them to make them feel special and personally invite them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Have a lucky door prize to intice more people to come along and offer a free gift if they bring a friend (to increase numbers).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Keep it casual so people don't feel pressured and they will buy more.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's not too late! You could stick them to the front of the brochure, or maybe to the page where the product is located. This is fine but doesn't give the most BANG for your BUCK!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Instead get a little bag, or cellophane paper. See through is good. Do you use the default Avon supplied delivery bags or do you use something else?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Try and think about what would make more of an impression on your customers. Customers love little extras and how it's presented to them can make a big difference.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I recently experimented using white plastic bags and white paper gift bags. Which do you think got more of an impression? Of course the white paper gift bags did. Customers loved them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes they are more expensive, but if you buy in bulk you can usually get a great discount. Have a look at paper supply companies, or even dollar shops. She also keep asking something about her sister who lives in another state and how her husband is too controlling to let her buy Avon but could I send her some anyway. Did you notice I didn't say that I &lt;em&gt;'sell'&lt;/em&gt; Avon.  I said I have an &lt;strong&gt;Avon&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;strong&gt;business&lt;/strong&gt;.  People respond much more positively if they think they are dealing with someone successful.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I only purchased 10 brochures.  Yep, just 10 and I only gave them to people who wanted to see one, that is HUNGRY CUSTOMERS!. Phone her and explain that she is intruding on your territory that you have worked with those customers for some time.  8 times out of 10 she'll apologize and you won't hear from her again.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The other times you're going to have to be ruthless.  Call your upline or manager and see if she can sort it out, sometimes an authority figure is enough to scare off the other rep.  If that doesn't work you are going to have to explain to your customers what is going on. In fact the hit rate for dropping brochures is around 1 customer for every 100 brochures. It got me thinking why we in Australia spell it such a way?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It seems to make more sense that it should be mom because the mo starts mother, don't you think?  Maybe it has something to do with the way we say it.  We say mum (rhymes with hum).
